Surreal Art Cafe Identity Design

The cafe owner envisioned a space for people to come and appreciate art, which has an environment of creativity, & philosophical dialogue about the human experience. They also wanted it to be opulent. The logo symbol along with its design language has been created to look lucid, and dream-like to match surrealistic definitions. The copy encourages the readers to dream big and enter a brave new world.

Andre Breton defined surrealism as a pure state of mind that allows someone to express thoughts freely. Without the encumbrance of rational thought & societal rules

Initial Ideas 1: Art Collage based Branding

Initial Ideas 2: Typography Based

Initial Ideas 3: Image Composition Based

Direction 1: The eye represents perspectives and emphasises observation. It puts the volume of the entire world in one symbol.

Direction 2: Here we tried to place the eye with something that clearly represents a cafe, a lounge chair. A place to sit, observe, dine, & relax. The coloured versions add modernity & vibrance and has a stamp like quality with the box.

Direction 3: Surrealistic puzzles to further develop digital identities. The pixels move constantly to symbolise the changing nature of art.

Direction 4: These circular plates also help change perspectives. There is talk, food, and elemental vibrations around this space.

Direction 5: Different patterns and colours to represent basic shapes and building blocks of art and design. Stamps and stick-on branding.

Direction 6: Symbols and stamps together can be a big part of promotions when it comes to creative enterprise businesses. Here the focus is on the name, and what business it is about.

Direction 7: Traditional & classical-looking signage for the cafe. The typography has a movement in strokes, and is floral & decorative

The decision to go with direction 1 further informed us to develop a design language that also represented surrealism in some capacity with the logo. The language was further developed to instill visual concepts of lucid & dream-like.
